TORRINGTON — Leon H. Saporite Jr., 60, of Hillcrest Street, Torrington, also known to his family and friends as "Lee" and "Leo," died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of 27 years to Susan (Day) Saporite.

Born Jan. 19, 1949, in Torrington, he was the son of the late Leon and Phoebe (Soules) Saporite. He served his country with the United States Army in Vietnam. He was employed by Fuel Cell Energy as an engineering technician. An avid car enthusiast, he attended many car shows and traveled as far as New Jersey to Tasca Ford. He was proud to own an antique 1962 Ford Fairlane 500. He enjoyed cooking and especially preparing all foods on the grill.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two aunts and eight cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, from 10 a.m. to noon at The LaPorta-Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Torringford Volunteer Fire Department, 1738 East Main St., Torrington 06790, Attn: Brian Cornell.
